How This Peptide-Based Skincare Range Claims To Scientifically Reverse The Skin’s Biological Age

In a world saturated with skincare options, OneSkin stands out for its commitment to scientific integrity, prioritising skin health over fleeting aesthetic enhancements.

A new player in the skincare game has emerged, promising not just a cosmetic improvement, but a scientific reversal of the biological age of our skin. OneSkin, founded by Carolina Reis Oliveira, PhD, is making waves with its innovative evidence-based approach to skincare; rooted in cutting-edge research and a commitment to ongoing skin health.

The Genesis of OneSkin

The journey of OneSkin began with a mission to scrutinise existing anti-aging products and their efficacy. Carolina Reis Oliveira, PhD, Co-Founder, and CEO of OneSkin, explains, “We initially set out to test anti-aging products available in the market on the 3D human skins we were growing in the lab to assess whether they actually worked.” What they discovered was both surprising and alarming. Most skincare products, instead of reversing the aging process, were either ineffective or, in some cases, harmful at the cellular level.

This revelation sparked a determination to delve deeper into the science of skincare. The OneSkin team embarked on a research journey, focusing on identifying new molecules, specifically peptides, capable of targeting the root cause of skin ageing.

The goal was to develop products that not only delivered on their promise of skin age reversal but did so without causing harm to the skin.

OS-01 Peptide: A Scientific Breakthrough

The cornerstone of OneSkin’s revolutionary skincare range is the proprietary OS-01 peptide. This molecule stands out as the first scientifically proven substance capable of reversing the biological age of the skin. “Our topical supplements are formulated with the OS-01 peptide, which specifically targets and reduces senescent cells – the ones that have accumulated cellular damage over time,” states Dr. Oliveira.

Moreover, OS-01 goes beyond mere reversal; it actively prevents new damage from occurring in healthy cells, allowing the skin to exhibit the characteristics of younger, healthier skin.

Over time and with increasing environmental exposure, your cells experience DNA damage. As this damage accumulates, they enter a state of dysfunction called senescence.

Often called “zombie cells,” senescent cells secrete pro-ageing factors that drive healthy neighboring cells to age faster and become senescent as well.

As more senescent cells accumulate, the skin experiences accelerated skin ageing, including visible signs like wrinkles, loss of elasticity, loss of firmness and thinning.

Why Skin Ageing Matters

The question arises – why should we be concerned about skin ageing? According to Dr. Oliveira, “Skin aging is something we should all think about because it’s not just about the wrinkles or changes we see in the mirror.”

She emphasises that the condition of our skin is indicative of the overall health of our body’s largest organ over time. Just as we prioritise heart health and mental well-being, caring for our skin is crucial.

OneSkin aims to shift the focus from mere aesthetics to a more profound understanding of the skin’s role in maintaining strength, resilience, and overall health as we age.
