On Fire! Secrets to Party Looks

Makeup tricks to make your clients clamour for more!

Smoky-Eyes

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and its creator and founder being honoured recently with a lifetime visionary awards, SPA+CLINIC decided to ask the folk at jane iredale for tips to help you achieve the ultimate smokey eye (and an overall fabulous party ‘face’) for your clients’ festive frolics.

If they are coming to you for treatments to make them shine at Christmas and New Year parties et al, why not add a complimentary makeup afterwards – something that’s quick (thus time and cost-effective for you) – but teaches clients how to do it themselves and looks so fabulous they’ll be buying the relevant products to use at home. And come back for more! So here’s the drill:

CREATE THE CANVAS

‘ Start by applying an even layer of Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener to enhance the performance of makeup – ideal to keep makeup looking fresh, prevent it from turning shiny (as opposed to making clients shine!) and keeping foundation in place.

‘ To complete the base, apply PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation directly on top of the primer, giving the face a semi-matte finish.

‘ A golden glow is an absolute must for radiance and the summer holiday season. Achieve this by applying PurePressed Blush in Copper Wind along the cheekbone with a wide fan brush.

‘ To add some subtle sparkle to the look, lightly dust the illuminating 24-Karat Gold Dust in Bronze over the cheeks.

‘ Seal the deal with one of jane iredale’s Hydration Sprays, which have been reformulated and awarded Ecocert’s natural and organic certification! These hydrating mists are also perfect to keep handy in a handbag or desk drawer for quick pep-ups to help refresh and brighten skin throughout the day. And they smell divine!

NOW TO THE EYES!

‘ A look transcending seasons is the subtle smokey eye. Highlight the brow bone, using the highlighter end of a Mystikol eyeliner or the dual Highlighter Pencil in pink/white. Line the upper lash line with an eye pencil or Mystikol. Blend this in well with a Smudge Brush.

‘ For the lids and lower lash line, jane iredale recommends using the Daytime Eye Shadow Kit.

‘ First, using the lightest shade, Oyster, apply to the entire eye lid using the Deluxe Shader Brush.

‘ Use the slightly darker neutral shade, Almond, and blend into the lid and crease line using the Crease Brush. This brush is the go-to tool for blending – amazing!

‘ Gradually getting darker, use Dark Suede eyeshadow on the outer half of the lid using a clean brush. Then blend well using the Crease Brush.

‘ Next, use one of the Jelly Jar Gel Liners to create a defined ‘cat’ liner across the upper lashes and lightly drag along the lower lashes using the Angle Liner/Brow Brush.

‘ If clients are wearing olive or purple, try jane iredale’s new-shade Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliners to bring out these colours in their party gear. Complete the ultimate (yet subtle) smokey eye with a coat of Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara in Black Ice.

LIP LOCKERS

‘ For long lasting, kissable-under-the-mistletoe lips, apply a moisturising balm to provide longevity and consistency of lip colour. such as LipDrink SPF 15 Lip Balm. Great too for daytime parties, with inbuilt sun protection. Lips get UV damage too!

‘ For a full and rich lip colour, use a PureMoist Lipstick in a shade that suits a client’s skin and hair colouring (also that is age appropriate) and will complement their proposed party outfit. For a coral shade, try Liz; if you are after a beautiful bright pink, try Renee. If red is a client’s pick, try Margi and for a nude-looking lip finish, Sharon. To maintain both depth and dimension with your lip colour, don’t be afraid to layer.

‘ Apply a light coat of PureGloss Lip Gloss in a shade that best compliments a client for a soothing, hydrating and nourishing all day/all night shine.

Jane iredale has handy little product minis in their new Starter Kits. Perfect to upsell to clients to slip into their party clutch for touch-ups throughout the day/night. Encourage them to add a lippie, blotting papers and a little fragrance, so they can enjoy the party with a gorgeous look that will see them through from start to finish!
