Why Thalgo Facials Stand Out From Other Spa Brands

Immerse, Energise, Correct and Reveal…

Thalgo is a brand most people are familiar with, and it would be fair to say that it is the ultimate spa brand. Luxurious textures, relaxing treatments, and the divine smell of the products that is recognisable from a mile away.

Last week, Thalgo, which by the way, is pronounced ‘Talgo’ – the ‘h’ is silent, launched their Silicium Lift Range with a beautiful media lunch at Sean’s in Bondi. The range includes five daily lifting products and a ‘Face Fitness Roller’, which glides over the contours of the skin, slightly pinching it and thereby helping with lymphatic drainage and blood flow.

The brand, which was born in France over 50 years ago, was introduced to Australia 40 years ago and is distributed by BLC Cosmetics. Thalgo has been inspired by the endless diversity of the ocean and uses marine extracts and minerals to rejuvenate the skin. But just as important as the ingredients in the products, is the treatment protocol that every Thalgo therapist follows making a Thalgo treatment truly multi-sensorial and unforgettable.

We caught up with Thalgo’s International Training Directrice, Joanne Cochrane, who flew in all the way from France, to demonstrate a Thalgo facial for us.

Joanne, how long have you been working for Thalgo and what makes this spa brand stand out?

I have been working for the Thalgo brand for 19 years as International Training Directrice. Thalgo is a French, family-owned, Marine Cosmetics brand that has been distributing Marine cosmetics for nearly 60 years. Thalgo was created in 1964 by a visionary pharmacist, André Bouclet, who was passionate about the regenerating power of the sea. Thalgo products are made in the South of France on the French Riviera. Thalgo’s recently built Clean Factory produces products for thalassotherapy centres salons, spas, clinics, in over 90 countries in the world. The aim of Thalgo is to offer 360° Marine Efficacy and wellbeing to all. Thalgo believes in an “In-Out” concept where we treat from “outside-in” with our face and body treatments and products, and from “”inside-out” with our extensive range of Marine Nutri-cosmetics. Although Thalgo is a very manual/touch brand, we are aware that for certain beauty results, in particular anti-ageing, devices are required. This is why Thalgo is launching the iBeauty Pro device to enhance facial results with four cutting edge technologies in one device. Thalgo leverages its dual anchor points of Pharmacy and Mediterranean to infuse marine energy through products and treatment protocols that revitalise body and mind for luminous beauty.

Can you briefly explain the role algae play in Thalgo products?

Sea water is incredibly rich in bioavailable minerals and trace elements. To withstand extreme underwater living conditions, algae develop an extraordinary wealth of active ingredients.

Algae concentrate active ingredients from the sea, minerals and trace elements, up to 10,000 times more than terrestrial plants. Thanks to algae, our oceans produce around 70% of oxygen in the atmosphere. Algae are used in every form: algae oils, powdered algae, algae macerate …to remineralise, revitalise and treat all beauty needs for the face and body, whether it be a cream, serum, mask, body wrap, bath, etc.

What makes a Thalgo treatment special?

The five senses are stimulated throughout Thalgo beauty treatments. The client is reminded of the sea at every step of the treatment, starting with Eveil à la Mer (Discovery of the Sea)  welcome massage, where the client will hear the sound of the sea whilst the therapist gently caresses the head and creates the sound of the waves, to when the client is gently awoken with “Reveil à la mer (Awakening to the Sea) with gentle wave-like rocking/cradling movements.

Thalgo’s Revitalising 4-step method (Immerse, Energise, Correct and Reveal), inspired by the benefits of the sea, structures all Thalgo’s face and body treatments. Thalgo have three facial massage techniques to treat all skin needs, which include the new Face Fitness-inspired massage technique with the Face Fitness Roller Duo to enhance facial firming, anti-wrinkle and radiance. And for step 2, there is the iconic “Energlift” massage technique, a literal manual face lift. Finally, Thalgo is very much a manual/touch brand but we are aware that for certain beauty results, in particular anti-ageing, devices are required. This is why Thalgo is launching the iBeauty Pro device to enhance facial beauty needs with four cutting edge technologies in one device.

How does Thalgo ensure that spas around the world perform these treatments the way they are intended to and how does Thalgo pick the right stockist/spa?

Thalgo has a team of Business Development Managers who are in charge of finding “the” ideal exclusive distributor for each country, which here in Australia is BLC – whom we have a very long-standing relationship with.

Thalgo has a team of International Trainers that travel to all five continents to train Thalgo head trainers and teams to assure that the protocols are perfectly delivered and respected. Regular “Master” training sessions are organised to bring together head trainers from all over the world to the French Riviera to our training academy, where they learn to perfectly perform all new Thalgo facial and body treatments as well as prescribe the essential retail products to continue the marine efficacy and wellness experience at home.
