How skincare and advancements in skin health technology is shaping the way we perceive age.
There’s a rising wave of disbelief sweeping through the world of skin, and not just because of a new serum or injectable. At the heart of it is a cultural shift, sparked by celebrities like Anne Hathaway, who recently went viral for her barely-aged appearance at fashion week.
But these reactions speak to more than just “good genes.” They’re evidence of something bigger: the way skincare innovation, non-invasive technology, and modern beauty philosophies are transforming not only how we look as we age, but how we feel about ageing itself.
For renowned celebrity facialist Ingrid Seaburn, whose career has taken her from Hollywood to Sydney’s elite skin scene, this shift is both exciting and deeply personal. With decades of experience working on the complexions of A-list clients, Ingrid is helping to redefine the language around ageing, removing fear and stigma, and replacing it with empowerment, education, and skin confidence at any age.

Ingrid’s approach reflects a noticeable evolution in how clients engage with skincare and in-clinic treatments today. “What people want now is not to stop ageing, it’s to age on their own terms,” she shares. “They’re asking better questions, and they’re more informed about the science behind products and procedures. It’s no longer about looking younger, it’s about looking radiant, healthy, and like the best version of you.”
Indeed, in an era where prevention often starts in your mid-20s, and regenerative aesthetics are a growing frontier, the anti-ageing conversation is being replaced by what some are calling pro-ageing. It’s not about turning back the clock, it’s about supporting skin health across every decade.
And that’s where Ingrid’s skin philosophy truly shines. Her focus lies in building strong skin barriers, treating inflammation at the source, and tailoring each treatment to the client’s unique lifestyle and biology. Whether it’s incorporating innovative ingredients like peptides and growth factors, or integrating high-performance modalities like LED, microneedling, and radiofrequency, Ingrid’s treatments are grounded in clinical efficacy and individualised care.
Ingrid, how has skin science shaped the conversation around ageing over the years?
In the last twenty years, we have seen a shift in understanding how active ingredients play the most important role in slowing the rate at which we age. Rather than asking how something feels on our skin, we are asking what a product will do at a dermal level to change the way our skin functions. The most significant players in the game are Retinoids and Vitamin C (and to some extent, the supporting players like Niacinamide and other active antioxidants).
These continue to advance in formulas, and that elevation of performance has given us much better results when it comes to slowing ageing. There is so much more awareness and information out there for the consumer to make really smart and educated choices when it comes to skin health and ageing. We also recognise the holistic connection to overall health and wellness in terms of how our skin performs, and that approach has launched skincare into the self-care and wellness category it belongs in!
Injectables also play a role when it comes to muscular lines and volume loss, however healthy glowing skin is created with collagen-activating products and skin treatments that teach our skin to act like younger skin.
You have worked with many A-list celebrities, what do you find is the most common focus or concern with their skin?
My celebrity clients are just like any other client; they have their skin issues and I am sure, feel an immense pressure to keep looking their best! Celebrities often travel a lot, their routines are disrupted with different late-night events and schedules and sometimes on-camera make-up can cause havoc with their skin’s balance.
The most common thing I see is barrier damage, meaning their skin’s immune response is fragile due to environmental stresses and chopping and changing skin products and routines. When I take on a new celebrity client, the first thing I do is sort out their at-home skincare routine, and I am very strict about dictating what exactly that will be. Trust is a key element in a client relationship, celebrity or not!
Where do you think this movement is set to head in the next decade?
If you are talking about the advancements in skin science, the options for collagen stimulating treatments and sophisticated at home skincare will advance significantly, as a result slowing the rate of ageing skin will be done in a way that gives women a much more natural and youthful look without the need for over filling and freezing foreheads.
I do believe that beauty has to be more than skin deep, and true beauty is connected to a healthy lifestyle, diet and emotional connection and choosing what works for you is nobody’s business but yours.
