Dancing Cosmetic Surgeon Leaves Patient Brain Damaged

A cosmetic surgeon in Atlanta, US, who posted a large number of videos of herself dancing around her operating table mid-procedure, has been accused of causing permanent brain damage to a patient.

At least 20 videos were posted on Youtube of Dr Windell Boutte and her ‘performances’, singing along to rap music, dancing around her operating room and gyrating beside patients whilst unconscious, and even including slicing open a patient whilst  ‘Cut It’ by O.T. Genasis blares in the background.

The patient to allegedly suffer brain damage, 55 year old Icilma Cornelius, was receiving a pre-wedding tummy tuck when her heart stopped eight hours into the procedure. The clinic was not equipped to deal with the emergency, and an ambulance had to be called.

A series of complications proceeded to follow, including Boutte having to stitch the patient to avoid infection, and the stretcher not fitting in the elevator, forcing Paramedics to carry her down the stairs. By the time the Cornelius was received and treated in hospital, she had suffered a lack of oxygen that resulted in permanent brain damage. She is now severely disabled and will require additional care for life.

Her son, Ojay Liburd who filed the lawsuit again Boutte, said “She just wanted to be perfect for her wedding dress” about his mother.

This is not the first time Boutte has faced claims of malpractice, with sisters Mitzi McFarland and Kristine Dolly also filing against the surgeon after visiting her for a laser lipo procedure they found on her website. However, what they received was a traditional invasive liposuction, and were shocked by the outcome. McFarland told news outlets “It’s more like Freddie Krueger cut my stomach,” with Dolly saying “I just feel deformed.”

In contrast to the ‘Plastic Surgeon’ title referred to by multiple news outlets following the cases, formally, Boutte’s qualifications include certification in Skin Surgery and Dermatology, once again highlighting the confusion and misleading information in the industry due to it being highly unregulated.

Boutte’s case has just settled out of court for an unknown amount. Watch one of the surgeon’s videos below.
