Get To Know Our Speakers: Tamara Shaw

We are just 7 weeks out from hosting our very first B2B aesthetics industry event, and we couldn’t be more excited! Leading industry titles SPA+CLINIC and Professional Beauty have joined forces to present BEAUTY & SPA Insiders on May 27th – a unique summit for spa, salon and clinic practitioners and business owners alike.

The programme is complete with a stellar line-up of industry speakers, and we thought we’d give you the chance to get to know them a little better before the big day.

Tamara Shaw, from Beaute Industry, will be speaking on the panel How I Found My Dream Team – Tips and Tricks On Recruitment.

A qualified Resort Manager, Marketing Co-Ordinator, Visual Merchandiser, Spa and Beauty Therapist, Trans-International Therapist, Educator and Account Manager, Tamara brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. In recognising the gap between owner operators and therapists through competition in the beauty industry, Tamara created Australia’s first online support community, Beaute Industrie. Creating community over competition, via a strong focus on education, motivation and inspiration, community members have felt reinvigorated in their career, have made fruitful connections, lifelong friends and industry colleges through attending Beaute Brunch events and connecting via the membership platform.

Tell us why you’re looking forward to speaking at BEAUTY & SPA Insiders
The more educational, connective reach we can provide back to the beauty industry the better, and I love that the Beauty and Spa Insiders event is going to be a platform for us to do so.

Tell us your daily routine in a nutshell.
Wake with gentle morning stretches, then to the kitchen for a glass of coconut water and vita-sol wholefood powder, then into my office for the day to record a podcast, plan content, organise our brunch events and everything in between. The evening finishes with a 5km walk with my husband and dinner by 7pm. It’s Queensland, so we’re pretty relaxed!

Who has been your biggest inspiration?
Emma Isaacs, CEO of Business Chicks. We both relish community and understand the magic of supporting women – only she does it from another country and with 5 kids in tow!

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
The connections that are made between others. I often receive text messages and emails with photos of our members who have connected afterwards, and often become the best of friends. It fills my cup to be the bridge that formed this connection.

What’s your favourite quote?
“Less announcements, more action!”

Name a song that has had an effect on your life.
Bulletproof by Le Roux. Since becoming a business owner, it’s empowered me to have a healthy relationship with money, and to celebrate success in all aspects. If I’m having a tough day, I go for a drive, pop it on and I’m back to feeling in control again.

Your proudest moment to date?
Our most recent Beaute Brunch networking event in Melbourne was a sellout event with 50 attendees and 3 guest speakers, and we’re only 9 months into business!

What is the next step for you and your business?
For 2019 we plan on perfecting the art of community, podcasting and events across VIC, QLD and NSW. We are focusing on building the brand and the presence around that, as scaffolding for growth in 2020.

Most loved AND most hated industry trends you’ve seen throughout your career?
Love – green skincare and a strong focus on holding brands accountable for their ingredients and packaging.
Hate – sheet masks. Hello alcohol, large molecular ingredients and unneccessary frangrance.

What do you do to energise, and to wind down?
To energise, I use a roller blend of essential oils that I apply to my wrist and breathe in. To wind down I apply foot cream before I sleep.
