Why CBD Massages Will Be Huge In 2020

Is this the spa industry’s next big thing?

Over the past several years in particular, we’ve been hearing the buzz throughout the beauty, spa and wellness industries around the impressive benefits boasted by CBD oil. Everything from CBD oils to ‘cannabis facials’ have constantly been making headlines for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and deeply hydrating properties, but until now, we haven’t seen nearly as much when it comes to the substance’s use on the body. But that may be about to change.

An on-demand massage service in the US called Soothe has just made CBD massages available to its Southern Californian customers. The massage is available to book using the app for citizens of Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire, Palm Springs and San Diego, and reportedly, the brand also has plans to expand this new offering into other regions soon.

ISPA’s 2019 US Spa Industry Study showed that 56 per cent of participating US spas plan to add CBD-related services to their offerings within the next two years. This would mean a substantial increase to the number of US spas with CBD offerings, from 18 per cent to 74 per cent by 2022.

The survey also demonstrated that almost half of respondents anticipate that CBD products and treatments will be the ‘industry’s next big thing’.

Jeff Bishop, Soothe’s VP of operations says “Our CBD massages combine a unique variety of massage techniques, supplemented with the topical use of high-quality, FDA-compliant CBD products”.

Soothe’s CBD treatments incorporate hemp-based topical CBD lotions and oils, which are non-psychoactive and within the constraints of US federal laws – meaning they contain less than 0.3 per cent tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. In Australia, the only way to legally obtain CBD products at this stage is via a prescription from a doctor.
